The Iron Max is a self-backwashing system that automatically cleans it's filter bed. This is accomplished with the electronic control valve that is mounted on top of the Iron Max. This valve is controlled by a timer, that on a regular interval, initiates the backwash cycle that cleans the bed of filtration media and resets it for the next period of filtration. The Iron Max is considered a maintenance free whole house water filter. There are no routine filters to replace and requires no chemicals. The Iron Max will filter and clarify your water by filtering iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide gas, and suspended solids in the water. It will also improve the taste & odor of your water. The Iron Max is controlled by a selfbackwashing control valve which will initiate a 10 minute backwash and then a 10 minute rinse (some applications require longer backwashes) approximately every 4-5 days depending on iron levels. The filtration media will need to be exchanged approximately every 8 to 10 years*. This is easily accomplished with the use of a wet & dry vacuum which you use to vacuum out the old filtration media from the top of the filter. You then replace it with a new bed of filtration media which will last approximately another 8 to 10 years*. This is the only maintenance that the system will require. * Some applications may require a more frequent replacement interval.

The Iron Max is fully shipped with filtration media already in the tank. WE DO NOT ship filtration media separately for our customers to pour in. We ship complete and ready to plumb.

We also offer the Fleck 2510 Manual non-electric backwashing valve with the Iron Max. This valve is perfect for cabins, cottages, or homes where power requirements are a concern.

The system connects to the main line of your home and filters all the incoming water to it. It requires a nearby power outlet for the control valve.

The filtration media used is a mixed blend of state of the art high capacity filtration media. This blend of high capacity filtration media is designed for hydrogen sulfide gas "rotten egg odor", iron and manganese removal. Potassium Solution Raises pH Level of Water to Allow for Effective Removal of Iron.

For Iron Bacteria, Sulfer Reducing Bacteria, and Tannins a Chlorine Solution can be Added.

The system consists of a 45 gallon solution tank which is filled with a solution of water and potassium carbonate for pH correction and/or chlorine for iron bacteria. The system also includes a small injection pump that is mounted on top of the solution tank with a pickup tube submerged into the mineral solution. The pump is wired to the switch side of the well pump switch so that it is only activated when the well pump is activated. When there is a demand for water in the household and the pressure in the pneumatic storage tank drops, the well pump and the injection pump are activated.The injection pump feeds the proper amount of mineral solution into the flowing stream of water with the use of a tee injector fitting that must be installed before the pneumatic storage tank. The addition of the mineral solution will increase the pH level of the water almost instantaneously. You can then regulate the amount of mineral solution that is fed with the use of a feed control valve located on the pump. Take several pH readings until you reach your target pH level. The required maintenance on the system includes adding the liquid chlorine or potassium carbonate powder to the solution tank in proper measure approximately every 6 months (this figure depends upon the amount of water usage in the household). The powder will dissolve readily in the water.If Chlorine is required, the addition of a Whole House Carbon Block Filter System is Highly Recommended.

Our non-electric pump is an excellent choice for treating your low pH, iron bacteria, and sulfur reducing bacteria. Perfect in situations where there is no access to electricity, there are multiple branches off a well such as irrigation or other homes sharing the well and only one line needs treatment, or on supplies where there is a variable flow rate. The pump is installed directly into the water supply line. It has a built-in meter that pumps the desired injection into the water at a very precise rate regardless of the flow of water -- from very low to full household flow rates.

The Iron Max system has several uses. It is primarily used for well water residential applications where superior water is desired for both taste and functional use. It is also used for commercial applications where iron prevention is required, applications such as; whole house, business, irrigation, pre-treatment, Reverse Osmosis pre-treatment, ect.

What is special about the Iron Max?

The Iron Max is unique in the following ways:
1. Only one piece of equipment is needed for multiple water problems. This actually can create an overall cost savings.

If the Iron Max does not use chemicals or sodium, what does it use?

Just water is needed for backwashing! The Iron Max creates filtered water at every tap - it does not add anything to your water. The Iron Max System will oxidize and absorb iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide gas from your water and trap it within the filter. Approximately every 7-10 days*, the automatic control valve will initiate a backwash cycle for approximately 20 minutes and rinse the trapped particles down a drain or elsewhere. The system will then automatcially re-set itself to backwash for another 7-10 days*. * Some applications may require a more frequent backwash interval.

How much water does it use?

Not much. It will use approximately 50 gallons once per week to automatically backwash itself. Larger Iron Max systems will use more water for backwashing. This backwashing process lifts away all the suspended particles that have been captured in the filter bed and washes them down the drain. These suspended particles naturally occur in water so you are not introducing an objectionable foreign substance back into the water supply.

How much iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide gas will the Iron Max filter?

The Iron Max will filter high levels of Ferrous and Ferric Iron up to 10ppm (mg/L), Manganese up to 8ppm (mg/L) Hyrogen Sulfide Gas up to 10ppm (mg/L) as well as unpleasant tastes and odors. The Iron Max will not treat iron bacteria or sulfur reducing bacteria. If these bacteria's are present you will need to chlorinate your well to prevent any iron bacteria or sulfur reducing bacteria from passing through the Iron Max well water filter.
