Nitrates can be found in water supplies that are in areas where there are heavy use of fertilizers. Nitrates can cause Methemoglobinemia a.k.a. blue baby syndrom. This is a serious condition in young infants and new born animals where the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood is reduced.

In applications where higher percentages of nitrate removal are required or where total house treatment is required for a lower cost than whole house reverse osmosis, ion exchange is the best answer.

In the ion exchange process, water containing nitrates is passed through a modified water softener. This special softener contains a resin that is manufactured solely for the purpose of removing nitrates and sulfates in the water. As they are removed they are replaced (exchanged) with harmless chloride. The source of chloride is from the salt used to regenerate the unit which can be either traditional softener salt - sodium CHLORIDE or a special salt called potassium CHLORIDE. Rather than waste either the sodium or the potassium we place the special nitrate resin on top of regular softening resin and along with removing the nitrates and sulfates we also soften the water with the same amount of salt being used. We get a free bonus of softening.

Of particular importance is the proper selection of the nitrate removal resin. It is specially formulated to cling tightly to the nitrates and sulfates until regeneration is required and not let them release into the water in excess amounts --- a process called "dumping". As long as the equipment is functioning, safety is virtually guaranteed. A meter control on the unit is very important to insure that regeneration is done even when unexpected excess water use occurs.

• The EPA has approved ion exchange and reverse osmosis treatment methods for removing nitrates/nitrites. The maximum contaminant level (MCL) is 10 parts per million (ppm) nitrate as nitrogen (NO3 as N). A laboratory may also choose to express nitrate as nitrate (NO3 as NO3) in the water analysis, and in this case, the EPA MCL is 44.2 ppm (10 ppm as N is equivalent to 44.2 ppm as NO3).

Whole House Nitrate Filter and Water Softener

	The Nitrate Eater nitrate filter is fully shipped with filtration media already in the tank. WE DO NOT ship filtration media separately for our customers to pour in. We ship this system complete and ready to plumb. This is a self-backwashing system that automatically removes the trapped contaminants within the filter bed and washes them down the drain. This is accomplished with a digital electronic control valve that is mounted on top of the Nitrate Eater.This valve is controlled by an electronic meter, that calculates the amount of water being used.Once the meter reaches x amount of gallons, It then initiates the backwash cycle that cleans the bed of filtration media and resets it for the next period of filtration. What makes the Nitrate Eater so unique - Dual Adjustable Backwashes. There is an initial backwash set at 10 minutes (adjustable from 1- 99 minutes in the field) that loosens the resin column and discharges any debris collected on the top of the resin bed since the last regeneration. The Nitrate Eater, unlike virtually all other systems, has a second adjustable time backwash which is factory set at 5 minutes (and field adjustable 1 - 99 minutes) to rid the system of these particles for the ultimate in cleaning, softening and nitrate filtration. The system connects to the main line of your home or business and filters all the incoming water to it. It requires a nearby power outlet for the control valve. The Microline® R.O. System contains the patented manifold plate which directs the flow of water through each of the filtration steps. The manifold design simplifies as it enhances the system by eliminating the need for individual connections between filtration stages. The Microline® R.O. System is designed to produce worry–free R.O. water with less waste. When the holding tank is full, the automatic shut–off device is triggered and signals the system to automatically cease production until more water is needed. These technologies have been the secret to the success of the Microline® R.O. System.

This undercounter 3 stage water filtration unit is easy to install (usually takes little more than an hour). The system comes complete with a space-saving, 2-gallon storage tank and all the necessary fittings, including a Lead free long-reach faucet and installation manual.

How the TFC-335 RO System works:

Prefiltration: When water first enters the Microline® R.O. System, it flows through a prefilter that protects the automatic shut–off and
Membrane from clogging with debris. The job of the prefilter is to filter outlarger particles such as silt, rust or scale, extending the life of your R.O.
Membrane and allowing it to reduce impurities*. In the Microline® T.F.C. System, the prefilter also has activated carbon in it. Activated carbon is used to reduce chlorine, which is necessary to protect the refined T.F.C. Membrane.

The Membrane: Water then travels to the operational center of the system—the Membrane. Here, most particles too small to be trapped by the prefilter are removed from the water stream and rinsed to the drain. The Membrane’s microscopic pores allow Hydrogen and Oxygen molecules through, (and water is H2O). The majority of the dissolved solids and impurities* are flushed into the drain’s water stream and exit the system. All Microline® R.O. Systems have our patented seal on each Membrane. The seal is designed to assure worry free installation, simplify system maintenance and reduce your service costs.

The “Final Polish”: After the Membrane, the R.O. water is routed to the holding tank. Our tank holds approximately 2 gallons of fresh, clean water and the automatic shut off tells the system when it’s time to make more. When you turn on the Microline® faucet and draw water from the holding
tank, it then goes through its final stage of filtration, a carbon filter, designed to reduce any remaining tastes and odors before reaching your glass. The carbon imparts the final “sweet” polish to your water.
